PROLOGUE TO RAB - Island of Rab, Croatia

Is there any greater manifestation of freedom than to run from overcrowded, over urbanized, polluted, cities into the simplicity, clearness, peacefulness of an island, and to breathe all the beauties of landscape, sea, intensively colored bushes, in the shadows of pines, all that lying on a sand beaches. This is the romantic picture it pops immediately to mind after thinking of Rab, synonym for mild climate, nice warm coves and bays.

Same as a nice lady, beautiful island Rab has the power to charm with its beauties. Its mild climate in the leeward, and pleasing green surfaces were attracting sights of seaman's and emperors ,all back from old Romans who conquered the island and named it - municipal Arba, over the Ostoragats, and Byzantium to the Slavic Croats, who in 7th century arrived to Adriatic sea and take its coasts and islands as a part of their destiny, they named it Rab after archaic Arba.

To every person who is visiting Rab for first time, as soon he puts his sights on old house fronts, roofs, towers , he can find traces of past centuries in architecture of old city which is preserved in all its beauty and authenticity. Small plazas with church towers, sacred edifices , "Knezev dvor" and small Mediterranean streets, vivid and full of life, in past and to-day, in-between walls which stood for centuries there are mixture of voices in different languages,

because people of Rab opened its hearts and island to all who want to enjoy it. People from all around the country and world are welcomed to visit this island, its natural beauties, its harbors and churches. On the hot summer days , warm stepping stones in the squares of city with painters with their pictures trying , at least for the moment

to capture its impressions of old and new Rab, while young men and girls, wanderers and musicians, true symbol of international human bound ness, feel like they are at home with their neighbors, friends and people of
